Kings Return’s claim to fame is transforming a fine-tuned urban echo chamber into a performance space. The Dallas-based vocal quartet—Gabe Kunda, Vaughn Faison, J. E. McKissic and Jamall Williams—gained prominence in 2020 after a video of the group singing a Gregorian chant in a vacant stairwell went viral.

“I think anytime anybody goes into some type of, like, echo-y chamber, you’re just kind of like, this is really cool,” Kunda said in a 2021 interview with NPR. “I think as musicians, the inclination is to definitely sing something.”

The ensemble released its debut album, “Rove,” in August.
