Show and Tell

Now let’s show and tell!

Do you recognize different Dr. Seuss stories in the musical you saw today?

What are some of the nonsense words you heard?

What would it be like to live on the planet Who? Why?

How do the characters (Horton, Mayzie, Gertrude, Kangaroo) change over the course of the musical?

True or false: "a person's a person, no matter how small."

Is Dr. Seuss a real doctor?
According to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry Theodor Seuss Geisel wasn’t an official doctor, but his prescription for fun has delighted readers for more than 70 years.

Does learning to read need to be fun?
In a 1954 Life magazine article Pulitzer Prize-winning American writer and journalist John Hersey put forth that children weren’t learning to read because Dick and Jane primers were boring. He proposed that Dr. Seuss write a reading primer to replace Dick and Jane. Seuss subsequently wrote The Cat and the Hat to teach children how to read.

I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It's a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope, which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life's realities. -- Dr. Seuss
