Anoushka Shankar Presents
Traveller: A Raga-Flamenco Journey

7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012
Eisenhower Auditorium

Sitar superstar Anoushka Shankar unites the passionate and diverse music of Spain with the vibrant, ancient forms of the Indian classical tradition. Tracing the musical commonalities of the Romani people’s journey from Rajasthan through Iran, Iraq, and Armenia on the way to settling in Spain, Shankar re-forges the link, separated by a thousand years, between Spanish and Indian music. Immersing herself in flamenco, fandango, buleria, and tango, Shankar has collaborated with renowned flamenco producer Javier Limón and gifted Spanish musicians to develop a new sound that reinterprets Iberian genres within Indian ragas and rhythms. Using sitar, tabla, bansuri flute, percussion, Spanish guitar, and voice, Shankar and her band create a mesmerizing collection of new tunes.
