Los Angeles Guitar Quartet
7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2012
Schwab Auditorium
The Los Angeles Guitar Quartet makes music without boundaries. For more than thirty years the Grammy-winning ensemble’s four virtuosos, each possessing musical strengths in particular genres, have enlivened concert stages with multicultural programs ranging from Bach to bluegrass. The Penn State program highlights the quartet’s signature mix of classics and far-ranging explorations. Hear Georges Bizet’s Carmen Suite, Manuel de Falla’s El Amor Brujo, jazz gems by Miles Davis and John Coltrane, Spanish Renaissance music from the time of Miguel de Cervantes, works inspired by African instruments, and more. “The world’s hottest classical ensemble or its tightest pop band? However it helps you to think about the LAGQ,” writes a Los Angeles Times critic, “keep the emphasis on superlatives for its unrivaled joy, technical élan, and questing spirits.”
