Brentano String Quartet
Brentano String Quartet returns to perform the final concert of a three-year Center for the Performing Arts at Penn State program featuring Ludwig van Beethoven’s complete string quartets. The ensemble has traveled extensively, performing in the world’s great concert halls and earning a reputation for performances that combine deep musical insight with stylistic elegance and technical brilliance. The quartet’s playing is “passionate, uninhibited, and spellbinding,” raves a critic for The Independent of London. The 2012 feature film A Late Quartet uses Brentano’s recording of Beethoven’s Op. 131 quartet as the foundation of its soundtrack. The ensemble-in-residence at Princeton University includes violinists Mark Steinberg and Serena Canin, violist Misha Amory, and cellist Nina Lee. The Schwab Auditorium concert features the quartets in D Major, Op. 18, No. 3; F minor, Op. 95; and E minor, Op. 59, No. 2.
Complimentary round-trip shuttle service is provided between the Eisenhower Parking Deck and Schwab. Board the shuttle in the area between the parking deck and the Eisenhower Auditorium rear loading dock. The first shuttle leaves Eisenhower at 6:05 p.m., followed by others every twenty minutes until 7:05 p.m. After the concert, the shuttle makes as many trips as necessary to return riders to Eisenhower.
