Penn State Opera Theatre presents a fully staged production of George Frideric Handel’s Alcina (1735). A pivotal work of the High Baroque period, Alcina features the magnificent music of Handel and a fairy tale story based on Ludovico Ariosto’s epic poem Orlando Furioso. Magic, sorceresses, knights, love, and despair—it’s opera! Performed in Italian, Alcina features graduate students from the School of Music vocal performance program accompanied by a small chamber orchestra.
